In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda, and salt until everything is well combined.
In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. Add in the egg and vanilla, mixing thoroughly, then beat in the pumpkin puree until smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips, then spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the edges start to pull away from the pan and the center is set. You can test by inserting a toothpick into the center; if it comes out clean, it’s ready!
Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting them into squares.
